Artist's Statement
In 1996 a palm tree appeared almost overnight in a suburb of Cape Town. This was the world’s first ever disguised cell phone tower. Since then, these trees have spread across the city, South Africa and the rest of the world. Invasive Species is a series of twelve photographs that explore the relationship between the environment and the disguised towers of Cape Town and its surrounds.
Artist's Biography
Born: Belville, Cape Town, 1981. Lives and works in Cape Town. Received his BA(FA) from Stellenbosch University. Major exhibitions: Vukela Art Competition. Awards and scholarships: Foto 2002 Competition (winner of photo series category), Timo Smuts Prize Exhibition (winner fine art category).
