Artist's Statement

In this work, I carved a statue of myself as a street beggar. The main aim was to try and put myself in the boots of street beggars who we sometimes take for granted. I wanted to see the world from the beggar’s perspective. This is an installation that was put on an awkward street as a street beggar. Passers by, who did not recognize that the statue was not real, called the police and the statue was ‘arrested’ and taken to the police station. I had to go to the police station to bail ‘myself’ out. The statue is wearing the real clothes and shoes of the artist.
