Artist's Statement

Strange Family: A married couple was in trouble – they had no children after being together for three years. Conflict started as the male wanted to have children. The conflict affected their extended families – their fathers and mothers. Granny enjoyed staying on the farm while her husband wanted to live happily with his son-in-law in town. They were advised to visit the church so as to bring harmony back again. Fortunately the priest prayed for them and soon after the prayer, the wife conceived and had a baby girl. After two years they had another child, a boy, and they were happy and gave their original house to their parents. They bought a new house and a car.

Man's Head: Here is a half portrait with tiny eyes, showing the deep concentration of a man. He is very tired after working during the hot day. This man was unemployed for thirty years but he finally got a job in the mines in Johannesburg. Since he had been working so hard, he had a sore in his nose that was very painful. After it healed he decided to go back home and leave the hard work. He studied at the University of KwaZulu Natal in 1995 and became a famous artist.
